Sure you can get strawberries all year round but there’s nothing like the juicy, ripe summer-strawberries. When I was a kid we used to go strawberry-picking to strawberry fields near our village. I remember that sweet strawberry smell on a hot summer day just like it was yesterday. So now, when I buy fresh strawberries from the farmers market the scent of it takes me straight back to those strawberry fields.
To celebrate the beginning of strawberry season, I’ve compiled a few of my favourite strawberry recipes, from strawberry pie to strawberry salad and strawberry smoothies. There’s something for everyone and I’m sure I will add a few more in the next weeks.
By the way if you are sensitive to fructose, you don’t have to eliminate strawberries. You can safely eat normal amounts because they are low-fructose fruits. Just like cantaloupe, honeydew melon, bananas or blueberries.
